Exquisitely designed scarves

This series of scarves has a true Ukrainian mood and my vision of traditions and colours. I wanted to use one of the oldest symbols – the Stars. Such octagonal stars are among the most famous geometric motifs in Ukrainian embroidery and symbolize masculine and feminine origins. This sign is protection against evil and negativity. This type of decorative star is also called – Alatyr. One of the meanings of this symbol is to show the primary eight annual cycles: Christmas, Maslyana, Easter, Trinity, Kupala, Spasivka, Rozhanitsa and Didy. This was and is one of the ancient and powerful symbols of the Ukrainian people.

This series of silk scarves were created in the most popular colours – yellow and blue. Yellow is the colour of solar energy, life, joy and prosperity. Sky blue and blue are the colours of security and trust. I want every girl or woman who wears my scarf to be wrapped in joy, positive energy and safety.

There are many exciting silk scarves in Ukraine, and it is always a caring gift that brings a good mood to each of us. I want the scarves from my Ukrainian series to bring joy here in Canada and Worldwide.

Canada is a fantastic and unique country. My family came here in 2003. From the very beginning, whenever we explored a new town here, we are in awe. From local areas of Niagara-on-the-Lake to Ottawa, Kingston, Halifax, Saint John or Quebec City, each place has its own unique charm and a beautiful character. You get to talk to the locals and find out you have some things in common.

The scarf itself represents a stylized quilt pattern of the symbols of Canada, like the Beaver, Peggy Cove, Moose, Canada Goose, Pancakes with maple syrup; how else but with them? Imagine the beauty of the Atlantic shores and the gorgeousness of the Rockies, the azure waters of the Great Lakes and the harsh climate of the North or endless forests and wide parries. It is a beautiful country, and this collection is all about Canada.

Your shoulders and neck would be covered in soft silk with lots of Canadian love. If you love to travel, this would be a great reminder of Canada to carry around for these fun times.

In Canada, each province and territory have their own official provincial flower, which is incredible! First, I drew each of these flowers, and then I assembled them all together as a beautiful flower garden.

Ontario has a soft white Trillium, and it exists in every part of it. In Quebec, there is a Blue Iris, and these are my most favourite flowers. Beautiful Alberta has a soft, prickly Wild Rose. Saskatchewan, a stunning Red Lily. The Northern Provinces and Territories have these small and ascetic wildflowers that attach themselves to rocks, transcending the Great Canadian North’s beauty. And look at those magnificent purple flower heads of Manitoba’s prairie Crocuses! Can you imagine that P.E.I has the northernmost Orchid in the World?

New Brunswick’s Purple Violet flower has an elegant smell, found in many perfumes. Mayflower – May and Flower – which best describes spring blooming in Nova Scotia. A blooming Pacific Dogwood of British Colombia looks like a blissful bride at the ceremony. Fireweed reminds me of my homeland – Ukraine, where also it grows. It has intense rosebuds always brightening during a sunset; what a fantastic flower for the Yukon!

So, you see, what a fabulous ensemble of beautiful flowers we have in Canada! When you wear these scarves, each flower won’t overshadow the others. They are all fantastic in their own unique way and complement each other. That is because they represent Canada, a country for all.
